Taco Bell tests a “first meal” option and an upscale “Cantina Bell” menu.

Taco Bell, usually known as the go-to-place for a late night “fourth meal” craving for cheap tacos and gorditas, is rolling out “first meal” or breakfast, the Huffington Post reported.

Following a five year test, Taco Bell is set to debut an 11-item breakfast line in 750 restaurants in 10 states by 2014. The chain aims to have 5,800 units serving breakfast.

Breakfast items  are set to include Cinnabon Delights (fried dough balls with cream filling), four types of breakfast burritos, hash browns and a sausage and egg wrap. The chain is also testing better-for-you items, such as oatmeal and yogurt parfaits.

While Taco Bell is late to the breakfast game behind other QSR chains its goal is to steal marketshare from other QRS chains already in the breakfast space, such as McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s,” according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

“First meal” isn’t the only menu change coming to Taco Bell. As the fast food chain seeks to refresh its offerings, it is currently testing a  “Cantina Bell” menu, which could start arrive in stores by the end of 2012. The Cantina Bell menu is aimed at a slightly more upmarket audience and includes dishes such as black beans, cilantro rice and grilled corn salsa.
