Louisville, Ky.-based Thorntons has partnered with Dare to Care Food Bank to help prepare foods for distribution for the Kentuckiana area.

Thorntons team members volunteered their time, and sorted and packed over 12,000 pounds of canned goods and other items at the Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville last Wednesday, March 23.

“At Thorntons we are very passionate about giving back to the communities that we serve,” stated Matt Thornton, president and CEO of Thorntons Inc., which operates 163 gasoline and convenience stores, car washes and travel plazas in five states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee.  “This is just another way where are our team members can contribute and give back their time and talents to the local community.”

Dare to Care Food Bank’s mission is to lead the community to feed the hungry and conquer the cycle of need. They are an independent, nonprofit, Kentucky corporation with 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status. Dare to Care procured and distributed 14 million pounds of food last year, including four million pounds of fresh produce. This food was delivered to 192,000 individuals in Kentuckiana through Dare to Care’s partnerships with over 300 independent food pantries, emergency kitchens and shelters. Dare to Care’s special programs include Kids Cafes at 14 afterschool locations and Backpack Buddy weekend nutrition program at 34 local elementary schools.
