The act has since gone viral, thanks to a witness’ Facebook post.

A Toledo, Ohio, 7-Eleven owner caught a shoplifter in the act. Instead of calling the police, he offered to help.

Store owner Jitendra “Jay” Singh told WTVG he caught a teen shoplifting from his store. His initial reaction, he said, was to ask a clerk to call 911.

Singh asked the teen to empty his pockets, which were filled with snacks from the store. He told Singh he was hungry and was taking the food for himself and his brother.

Singh then asked his clerk to hang up the phone. Instead of reporting the teen, he gave him pizza, chicken, sandwiches and other food, free of charge, according to WTVG.

“It’s not going to make any difference to me if I give him some food because we make a lot of food, we sell a lot of food,” Singh told WTVG. “If he goes to jail, then he’s definitely not going to do anything good in life.”

Singh said he hopes the teen “pays it forward” by helping someone else in the future
