NACS to work with the administration to ensure c-store retailers’ voices are heard.

Trump has won the 2016 presidential election. What does a Trump presidency mean for c-stores? Republican majorities in both the House and Senate mean the Trump administration will likely to have free rein to push though its agenda.

The Affordable Care Act is likely to be on the chopping block as Trump has pledged to repeal and replace it.

Jeff Lenard, vice president, strategic industry initiatives for the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) told CSD that when it comes to energy issues, it’s likely that this republican house/senate majority will result in a focus on domestic production and away from alternative energy. “The markets already are forecasting that with shares of refining stocks rising and the value of RINs falling,” he said.

Still, Lenard noted it is still premature to suggest which issues will emerge as priorities over the first hours or days of the new administration.

“NACS will be working closely with both Congress and the new administration to ensure that convenience retailers’ voices are heard. And one great opportunity for retailers to be part of this process is to join us at the March 6-8 NACS Government Relations Conference,” he said. Retailers can register on the NACS website.
