The United Family of stores raised over $40,000 through an in-store promotion to raise awareness for child hunger.

The United Family of stores has raised $40,181.56 to raise awareness for the problem of food insecurity and to help end child hunger. From May 18 to June 1, The United Family held its scan tag promotion, during which guests were given the option to donate $1 or more upon checkout to support local organizations.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 15.3 million children under age 18 in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy diet.

This initiative adds to The United Family’s long list of donations made in 2016. Earlier this month, the company donated 116,146 pounds of food to local food banks in preparation for the winter months as part of their 100th anniversary celebration. Additionally, The United Family will continue the ‘100 Days of Giving’ campaign through Sept. 7, donating $1,000 each day for 100 consecutive days to a non-profit organization in the company’s local communities.
