United Supermarkets has chosen software and services company FuelQuest to streamline and manage the grocery chain’s bulk fuel processes, FuelQuest said.

United Supermarkets is a regional grocery chain operating 47 stores in 27 cities across north and west Texas.

“Heightened fuel price volatility coupled with the expansion of our retail fuel sites throughout Texas required us to seek out a strategic fuel sourcing solution to implement best practices across our statewide fuel operations,” said Chris Bridgford, fuel director of United Supermarkets. “FuelQuest’s Fuel Management Services enables us to complement our internal talents with FuelQuest’s veteran staff and industry-leading solutions to obtain the optimal supply portfolio at the most competitive prices so we can pass that savings along to our guests.”

FuelQuest, which serves the downstream energy industry, will supply United Supermarkets its Fuel Management Services to help the grocery store in a number of facets, including:

  • Strategic consulting on supply portfolio, contracting and sourcing;
  • Reducing financial exposure to volatile markets with reduced freight and fuel costs;
  • Increase transparency with fuel purchase, transport and taxes;
  • Centralize control and provide real-time visibility into all stores;
  • Optimize inventory and dispatch control;
  • Automate invoice reconciliation;

    “We are proud to add United Supermarkets as a customer, as FuelQuest continues to make deep inroads in the retail sector,” said Ryan Mossman, vice president and general manage of Fuel Management for FuelQuest. “The new economic norms created by today’s record fuel prices have intensified the need for the blend of best-in-class technology and downstream supply chain domain expertise that only FuelQuest can provide.”
