Can it get more convenient than delivery to your home refrigerator?
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has partnered with August Home to test a new delivery concept in California’s Silicon Valley that would bring food and grocery right to customers’ home refrigerator.
How does it work?
According to a report by Nasdaq.com, the customer orders groceries online and specifies the delivery time. The customer must have an August Home smart lock and security camera to use the service. The delivery person, called a ‘Deliv driver,’ arrives at the customer’s home. If no one answers the door, the driver enters using a one-time pass code into the front door’s smart lock. When the pass code is activated a notification reaches the customer’s smartphone, and the customer can watch the driver via the security camera feed. The driver places the groceries inside the refrigerator. Once the driver exits, the customer receives a notification the door has been locked.
While the service is certainly convenient, privacy concerns and purchase of security camera equipment could prove to be barriers.
