Beck was a tireless champion of Ohio’s independent, family-owned petroleum marketers.

OPMCA mourns the loss of long-time industry innovator and former Ohio Petroleum Marketers Association (OPMA) leader William F. (Bill) Beck, who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.

Along with his brother, Larry Beck, Bill Beck was owner and operator of Beck Suppliers in Fremont from 1964 until he retired in 2012. Throughout his career, he was a tireless champion of Ohio’s independent, family-owned petroleum marketers, and served on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Petroleum Marketers Association; a tradition now carried on by his son, current Director Doug Beck.

During his tenure with the OPMA, Beck was active in the association’s advocacy efforts with the Ohio General Assembly and state regulatory agencies. He played a key role in helping to shape the strategic direction of the association, which would evolve to become the modern OPMCA.

Beck earned a Bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and was a lifelong Buckeyes fan. An avid tennis player, he previously served on the Board of Directors for the Port Clinton Yacht Club. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Catawba Island Club and The Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Family, friends and business associates will fondly remember Beck for his kindness and generosity.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Meridith Beck of Port Clinton; sons, Doug (Michele) Beck, Fremont; Brian (Robin) Beck, Port Clinton; Dean Beck, Fremont; brother, Larry (Linda) Beck, Fremont; six grandchildren: Olivia (Ryan) Lashaway; Madeline Beck; Chloe Beck; Maxwell Beck; Chelsea (Louiz) Carvalho; and Racheal (Randy) Miller; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., with an hour of visitation prior to the service at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State St, Fremont. Pastor Jody Rice will officiate.

A burial will take place at a later date.

Memorials can be made in honor of Bill to Grace Lutheran Church.
