Distributor will take over operations in Upstate New York locations early next year.

Wilson Farms, which is headquartered in Amherst, has 198 locations in Upstate New York either under its own name, Wilson Farms Xpress or Sugar Creek.

Paul Nanula, Wilson Farms president and chief executive officer, said the switch was made as part of Wilson Farms’ efforts to keep as much of its business with local interests as possible. Nanula’s group acquired Wilson Farms from Tops Markets LLC three years ago, according to Business First of Buffalo. Terms were not disclosed.

“We selected Tripifoods based on their expertise and experience in supplying convenience stores and our joint commitment to supporting the local economy,” Nanula said.

Because of the Wilson Farms contract, Tripifoods is expected to create 60 new jobs, said Greg Tripi, president and chief executive officer of the family-run company, which operates out of William Street.

Tripifoods provides distribution services in eight states to everything from convenience stores and drug stores to mass merchandisers. “It’s a great benefit that happens when two locally-owned and operated companies work together,” Tripi said.

McClane Co. currently has the Wilson Farms contract. The shift will take place early next year.
