YEO is set to meet next at the National Advisory Group Conference in Jacksonville, Fla. this September.

The second and final day of the Young Executives Organization (YEO) Conference hosted by Cumberland Farms wrapped up Thursday in Massachusetts.

Jill Johnson, president of Johnson Consulting, closed out the educational sessions with a presentation on tools for building confidence for young executives.

She outlined three keys to building confidence: progressions, practice and presentation. Confidence doesn’t develop instantaneously—it builds. It’s a progression as we practice and become more skilled with each step, much like a gymnast must master cartwheels before doing them on a balance beam.

Johnson spoke about her own experiences and potential tools for grounding oneself in order to present your most confident self.

“Know you belong and manage discouragement by networking with trusted peers and allies,” Johnson said. Discouragement often comes at a time when you’re working to move to the next level and just beginning a progression toward confidence in new skills.

While confidence can fluctuate, knowing what your tools are for regaining a sense of self-trust and focusing on your strategy for taking your idea to the next level is key for moving through challenges.

YEO members spent the afternoon touring convenience stores in the Boston market, including an Alltown Convenience Store, VERC Enterprises and Seasons Corner Market. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, sample food, network with peers and gain ideas to bring back home.

YEO’s Mission
The National Advisory Group (NAG) introduced the Young Executives Organization (YEO) to provide young executives with a group that is solely focused on exchanging personal experiences with peers in their age group.

YEO’s mission is to cultivate young talent in the convenience store and petroleum industry through implementation of education and networking.

YEO members are industry leaders who are approximately 40 years of age or younger. Members are entrepreneurs, leading top businesses and actively pursuing a higher level of professionalism in the convenience store and petroleum marketing industry.
