Douglas New is helping to support the rapid growth of the Yesway convenience chain.
Yesway has announced that Douglas New is joining the convenience store chain’s team of convenience store veterans as the company’s new chief technology officer.
New brings an extensive technical background and years of executive-level experience to the rapidly growing Des Moines, Iowa-based company. The store’s executive team is now poised to create a strong, recognizable brand.
New is well-versed in the technical side of the convenience store business, most recently having served as chief information officer at Tedeschi Food Shops Inc., a New England-based retail convenience business. While chief information officer at Tedeschi, New developed technology strategy and oversaw all IT-related activities and support services for 181 stores and 2,300 employees.
New will report directly to Mark Daniels, the firm’s chief strategy officer. He will be responsible for mapping and implementing Yesway’s technology strategy, and his duties include defining the execution plan for Yesway’s e-commerce platform.
New’s experience in the convenience store industry will serve Yesway well as the company moves toward its goal of acquiring 500 stores in the next several years.
“Douglas brings a wealth of convenience store operations expertise to the Yesway brand, and I look forward to working with him to execute our technical strategies during a time of tremendous growth at Yesway,” said Thomas Nicholas Trkla, Yesway’s chairman and CEO. “I will count on Douglas to be Yesway’s technology voice at the highest levels of business and product planning, and I, along with the rest of our senior management team, will rely on his insights and recommendations on technology feasibility, staffing, processes and other technology-related decisions as we continue our expansion in the coming years.”
