Construction will officially begin in early November.

Buc-ee’s has announced that it will break ground on its newest travel center in Lafayette, La., on Monday, Nov. 9. The opening will be met with a ceremony attended by local leaders, according to a Buc-ee’s statement.

Located at Interstate 10 & Louisiana Ave., Buc-ee’s Lafayette will occupy 74,000 square feet and offer 120 fueling positions. Buc-ee’s favorites — including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries — will all be available.

Customers will find thousands of snack, meal and drink options, as well as award-winning restrooms.

Attendees of the Buc-ee’s Lafayette groundbreaking ceremony will include Mayor Monique Boulet, Parish and City Council Members Boudreaux, Broussard, Guilbeau, Hebert, Hooks, Naguin, Tabor, Richard, Rubin and Stansbury; State Legislators Boudreaux (Gerald), Myers, Boudreaux (Doyle), Carlson, Chassion, and Hebert; DOTD Assistant Secretary Eric Dauphine; and LEDA’s Board of Commissioners.

Founded in Texas in 1982, Buc-ee’s operates 57 stores in total. Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Virginia and Colorado.

“This I-10 Louisiana location is finally happening, and we could not be happier to be here in Lafayette,” said Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development. “From Texas to Florida, Buc-ee’s is the perfect place to stop for clean restrooms and great BBQ, over and over again.”

Buc-ee’s Lafayette will bring at least 200 full-time jobs to the area, with starting pay beginning well above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k and three weeks of paid vacation.

Louisiana joins a growing list of states with Buc-ee’s projects in the works. Most recently, just two weeks ago, the retailer announced plans for its second location in Colorado, in El Paso County.

The plan is currently in an administrative review and approval process, according to officials in El Paso county.

“If the site development plan satisfies all applicable technical design requirements, it will be approved administratively,” El Paso County wrote in a statement. “The site development plan does not return to the board of county commissioners for approval, and there is no appeal of that administrative approval to the board of county commissioners.”

Buc-ee’s first entered the Colorado market in March 2024 with a site in the Denver metro area. This site also stands at 74,000 square feet and offers 116 fueling positions and 12 electrical vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The chain is also looking to grow its footprint to Oklahoma, it announced earlier this month, as the Oklahoma City Council approved a $25 million rebuild of the Interstate 40 interchange, which sits near a recently proposed Buc-ee’s site in western Oklahoma City, according to a report from local outlet News On 6.

Although the project is not directly tied to Buc-ee’s, it signals that the city is preparing for significantly higher traffic volumes in the coming years. Following the vote, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt acknowledged that the proposed Buc-ee’s would require substantial investment in the surrounding infrastructure.

In a later X post, Mayor Holt wrote the following: “I can now finally confirm that we are in very active conversations with Buc-ee’s about their first location in Oklahoma City (and the State of Oklahoma), which will be located at Interstate 40 and Cimarron Road in West OKC.

There will be new infrastructure necessary to facilitate this project, and that aspect of the project is made possible by a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). Relative to that work, the City Council today approved an agreement with ODOT and the development company associated with Buc-ee’s. Though work lies ahead, we look forward to the opportunity to welcome Buc-ee’s to OKC.”

Construction, according to a statement from ODOT, could begin as soon as 2028.
