In late July, Dickinson, N.D.-based The Hub announced the launch of HubPerks, its brand-new loyalty app.
Developed alongside Liquid Barcodes, HubPerks significantly enhanced the chain’s loyalty operations, introducing a multitude of new capabilities like a subscription beverage program, stamp cards, fuel loyalty, gamification, coupons and much more.
The launch was a notable upgrade for the chain, with store leader Duane Duppong mentioning that the company “had a very simple app” before HubPerks.
“This is a lot more techy, but it’s very new to us,” said Duppong. “We offer games that you can play (and) free items to win from those games. We have drink subscriptions, promotions that we run monthly and quarterly, points that you can earn on dollars that you spend … then those can be redeemed back in-store as essentially cash. We have foodservice clubs or digital punch cards for entrees, sodas, coffees. And we are in the process of launching online ordering.”
Duppong said that he and The Hub have learned many lessons from the launch process, but chief among them is to “not underestimate the planning that goes into it.”
“It’s a very tedious process,” he said. “The technology is cool, but there’s so much in the backside of it that has to be done. So, don’t underestimate what actually has to go into it. It’s not just downloading an app and being an app.”
