Walmart+ has announced the introduction of CITGO to its Gas Savings benefit, expanding from 13,000 to more than 17,000 participating stations across the U.S.
Fuel is a meaningful part of the household budget. Average household annual spending on gasoline and other fuels totaled more than $2,600 in 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“For Walmart+ members, the Gas Savings benefit is already helping put some of that money back in their pockets: members who use the benefit at least weekly have saved over $100 a year on gas, saving more than the cost of an annual Walmart+ membership from just one benefit,” the company noted in a statement.
“A membership has to earn its place in a household budget,” said Deepak Maini, senior vice president and general manager, Walmart+. “That’s why we’re focused on delivering real value members can use again and again. Expanding our Gas Savings benefit by adding CITGO stations gives members even more places to save, with convenient locations that fit into their rhythm of daily life.”
The expanded footprint is the latest example of how Walmart is using its scale to unlock more value for Walmart+ members. By adding CITGO locations to the Walmart+ Gas Savings benefit, which already includes participating Walmart, Exxon, Mobil and Murphy stations, plus member prices on fuel at Sam’s Club, Walmart is increasing the overall number of participating stations by approximately 30% nationwide. Members in parts of the Southeast, Midwest and Northeast will see some of the biggest gain in access, reflecting CITGO’s strong presence in those regions.
“The Club CITGO network provides great choice and convenience when Walmart+ members are on the road,” said Chris Kiesling, assistant vice president of light oil operations and marketing for CITGO. “At participating CITGO locations, Walmart+ members can redeem their Walmart Gas Savings benefit and stack additional savings when they join the Club CITGO loyalty program.”
CITGO is a recognized leader in the refining industry and operates under the well-known CITGO brand. CITGO owns and operates three refineries located in Lake Charles, La.; Lemont, Ill.; and Corpus Christi, Texas, and wholly and/or jointly owns 43 active terminals, eight pipelines and three lubricants blending and packaging plants.
With approximately 3,300 employees and a combined crude capacity of approximately 829,000 barrels-per-day (bpd), CITGO ranks as the fifth largest and is one of the most complex independent refiners in the U.S.
