Emma Lewis brings more than 25 years of experience to the role, most recently at Shell.

bp has announced that Emma Lewis will join the company as executive vice president, Downstream, and a member of the bp leadership team. The appointment will go into effect in January 2027.

bp’s Downstream segment brings together the refining, terminals and pipelines, mobility and convenience, aviation, and bioenergy businesses. It connects how bp makes, moves and sells fuels products.

“I am delighted that Emma is joining bp as executive vice president, Downstream,” said Meg O’Neill, bp CEO. “Emma is a proven leader with deep operational and commercial experience across global downstream businesses. She has a strong track record of improving performance and leading large organizations through change. Downstream plays a strategically important role in bp’s success, and I look forward to working with Emma as we continue to strengthen performance and grow value for our shareholders.”

Lewis most recently was executive vice president, Chemicals, at Shell, where she led the company’s global chemicals business, including its operating assets, commercial activities, polymers interests and joint ventures. She has extensive experience across chemicals, refining, manufacturing, commercial operations, supply chains and strategy.

She joined Shell in 2012 after approximately 13 years at ExxonMobil in operational, manufacturing, commercial, product-management and supply-chain roles. She joined ExxonMobil in 1999 and held operational and commercial roles in the U.K., Belgium, and the U.S. These included responsibility for manufacturing operations at Mont Belvieu in Texas, chemicals supply and logistics across the Americas, and sales management for the polyolefins business.

Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Leeds.

“I’m excited to be joining bp and leading its Downstream business,” said Lewis. “bp has exceptional people, strong businesses and a distinctive integrated model. I’m looking forward to working with the team to further strengthen performance, reinforce safe and reliable operations and deliver sustained value for bp.”

Richard Harding will continue as interim executive vice president, Downstream, until Emma Lewis takes up the role.

“I would like to thank Richard for his leadership of Downstream for the last seven months and for the strong foundation he has helped put in place,” O’Neill added.
