With over 14,400 stores worldwide—including more than 7,000 in the United States—Couche- Tard is one of the global leaders in convenience retail. In 2003, Couche-Tard acquired the Circle K corporation from the ConocoPhillips Company. This transaction significantly grew the company with the addition of 1,663 Circle K corporate stores in 16 state and another 627 with a franchising or licensing agreement either in the United States or overseas. Today, Circle K is Couche-Tard’s dominant and most recognizable domestic brand. The 2017 acquisitions of Holiday Station Stores and CST Brands also added nearly 2,000 stores to the company’s portfolio. In 2021, the company acquired 35 Porter’s Convenience Store locations in Oregon and Washington.
Couche-Tard agreed to acquire 2,193 sites located in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg from TotalEnergies in 2023. The chain also agreed to acquire 112 fuel and convenience retail sites from MAPCO. Couche-Tard acquired the Wilsons network, where it sold 52 sites and added 45 sites and more than 120 dealer locations in Atlantic Canada as well as a marine fuel terminal in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It acquired 65 car washes from True Blue Car Wash LLC and 45 sites from Big Red Stores.
