Founded in 1959, Johnson Oil Company is a privately-held, family-operated chain of nearly 80 convenience stores in Illinois and Iowa. In 1965, the first gas station was purchased in Amboy, IL. As gas service stations continued to transform into convenience stores, ExpressLane Gas and Food, Inc. was established in 1985. Many stores today feature Subway restaurants.
In 2011, Johnson Oil ExpressLane became dual branded with the purchase of BP branded convenience stores located in Seneca, Plano, Sheridan, Earlville and Shabbona, Illinois. As a result of the BP purchase, Johnson Oil ExpressLane now own and operate Subway restaurants located within BP and Shell convenience stores. The oil company also distributes Shell and BP fuels.
