Founded in 1959, Johnson Oil Co. is a privately held, family-operated chain of nearly 80 convenience stores in Illinois and Iowa. In 1965, the first gas station was purchased in Amboy, Ill. As gas service stations continued to transform into convenience stores, ExpressLane Gas and Food Inc. was established in 1985. Many stores today feature Subway restaurants.
