Founded in 1965 with a single store in Eau Claire, WI, Kwik Trip has long operated friendly, clean, trusted, family-owned convenience stores with a focus on fresh food. The company now operates more than 700 stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. In 1993, the company rebranded its Iowa stores under the name Kwik Star. In the 2000’s, the Zietlow family became the sole owners of Kwik Trip, and the company witnessed an expansion of its grab-and-go foodservice. Vertical integration is a major priority for the company—a strategy that began with its own dairy, commissary, bakery, warehouse, and distribution in the 1980s and early 1990s. In 2017, the company announced the introduction of a $300 million investment in new facilities including a $113 million automated bread and bun production facility. Kwik Trip has placed a strong focus on making healthier options available to consumers and, in 2014, became the first convenience store chain to partner with Partnership for a Healthier America—an organization launched by former First Lady, Michelle Obama.
