  • Rutter’s Farm Stores (York, PA) has appointed Brian Matlock vice president of foodservice. A native of Monterey, CA, Matlock is a veteran of the convenience industry. Prior to joining Rutter’s, he served Worsley Cos. (Wilmington, NC)as category manager, fresh foods and proprietary beverages. From 1997 to 2004,Matlock worked in logistics, operations and merchandising for 7-Eleven Inc.,most recently serving the chain as merchandising manager of fresh foods and proprietary beverages for 820 stores in the Northeast. In 2004, he foundedCafeOro.com, an Internet-based coffee roaster and retailer.
  • Rick Klyzcek has joined Mapco Express (Franklin, TN) as a division manager.Prior to accepting the position with Mapco, Klyczek spent his entire convenience-retailing career as a member of the NOCO Express team (Tonawanda, NY), most recently as dealer business manager.
  • Chevron Corp. (San Ramon, CA) has elected Donald B. Rice to its board of directors. Rice was a member of Unocal Corp.’s board of directors prior to Unocal’s recent acquisition by Chevron. Rice is chairman, CEO, president and co-founder of biotechnology firm Agensys Inc., and also serves on the boards of Amgen Inc., Wells Fargo & Co., and Vulcan Materials Co. He is a trustee of the RAND Corp. and chairman of the board of governors of the Pardee RAND Graduate School.

  • Papa Gino’s Inc., parent of the Papa Gino’s and D’Angelo quick-serve restaurant chains, has added former BP executive
  • Tony Padulo as senior vice president of franchise development. Padulo spent two years with BP (La Palma, CA) as director of franchise development, responsible for developing a comprehensive “ franchise revitalization” strategy/platform for the Arco ampm retail offer. Prior to joining BP, he spent 22 years with what is now known as now Dunkin’ Brands Inc., parent of Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin-Robbins and Togo’s.
  • The Petroleum Convenience Alliance for Technology Standards (PCATS) has added Susan Hilaski as director of technology standards implementation. Prior to joining PCATS, Hilaski served the National Beer Wholesalers Association as manager, technology and industry information. Hilaski replaces Ted Mason,who is leaving PCATS to become executive director of the Kentucky Grocers Association/Kentucky Association of Convenience Stores.
  • QTG (Quaker Tropicana Gatorade), a Chicago-based division of PepsiCo, has named Todd Magazine president of its Quaker U.S. Foods business unit. Magazine assumes the Quaker Foods president post from his most recent position as the division’s vice president of marketing, which he held since 2004. In that role, he led development of the unit’s strategic plan, its brand equity work, product innovation, channel strategy and consumer insights for brands including Quaker Oatmeal, Life Cereal, Cap’n Crunch and Aunt Jemima. Previously, Magazine served PepsiCo’s Gatorade business unit as vice president of new products from 2002 to 2004.
  • QSR giant McDonald’s Corp. has added Richard H. Lenny, chairman and chief executive of chocolate maker Hershey Co., to its board as a new director.The new addition increases the size of McDonald’s board to 14 directors. Lenny is also a director of Sunoco Inc. Before joining Hershey in March 2001, he served Nabisco Biscuit Co. as its president and became a group vice president at Kraft Foods Inc. after Kraft acquired Nabisco.
  • J&J Snack Foods has appointed Paul Klingensmith vice president of frozen dessert sales to focus on expanding the opportunities associated with the nation’s leading frozen novelty distributors. Prior to joining J&J, Klingensmith served Matterhorn Group Inc. as vice president of sales. Also, J&J has appointed Don McComas, a Certified Master Baker, its national director of product development. Formerly the national director of product development for J&J subsidiary Country Home Bakers, McComas will now focus on developing products for all J&J divisions.
  • Convenience foods manufacturer Lettieri’s Inc. has added Gary Harms as its new director of plant operations. For the past 11 years, Harms has worked for National Fruit Product Co., which he served most recently as senior director of production. He also worked in quality control for Oscar Mayer for three years and Vlasic Foods for 13 years.
  • The board of directors of Hormel Foods Corp. has elected Jeffrey M. Ettinger to be the company’s ninth chief executive officer. Ettinger succeeds JoelW. Johnson, who will retire as CEO on Jan. 1, 2006; Johnson will continue to serve as Hormel Foods’ chairman of the board. Ettinger, who began his career with Hormel Foods in December 1989 as a corporate attorney, was appointed president and COO of Hormel and named to its board in May 2004.
  • The board of directors of Bosch Security Systems has appointed Shamus Hurley president of the company. In addition to his current responsibilities overseeing sales and marketing operations for the Americas, Hurley will also have direct responsibility for all customer care functions in these territories. Hurley joined the company in 2002 as vice president of sales, North America.
