Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores Inc. was named in a federal lawsuit with two assistant managers claimed the company refused to pay them overtime. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Sioux City, seeks class-action status to compensate anyone who

worked as an assistant manager during a three-year period prior to filing, according to the Associated Press.

According to the attorneys of the two plaintiffs, there could be thousands of current and former assistant managers who could be owed for unpaid overtime.

“I was required to work several hours per week off the clock,” Kristina Jones, a former assistant manager and a plaintiff in the case, said in a statement. “Casey’s relied heavily on assistant managers to pick up the slack and keep the store running but failed to pay me all of my overtime.”

An attorney representing the women said failure to pay overtime is a serious violation of federal law.

Eli Wirtz, an attorney for Casey’s, said the company has a policy not to comment on pending litigation.
