The company to offer five major fuel brands: BP, Marathon, ExxonMobil, Shell and Clark.

Lykins Cos. has purchased London, Ky.-based Paul R. Wilson Oil Co. Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1956 by Paul R. Wilson, the company has a deep tradition in the community. In 1970, Mike Hamm, Wilson’s son-in-law, joined the business. He will stay on under the new ownership and serve as Central Kentucky operations manager.

“This is very exciting for me and our customers. This will be a seamless transition, with our staff and location remaining the same. Customers won’t notice any change in that regard. However, we will be able to offer them a wider range of products and services than ever before, which is very exciting,” said Hamm.

“With Lykins as the new owner of Paul R. Wilson Oil Co., customers will have expanded fuel options including alternative fuels like E-85 and nexsol Biodiesel Supreme,” said Lykins Cos. President Jeff Lykins. “Area gas stations and convenience stores will now have the choice of Shell, BP, Marathon, Exxon/Mobil and Clark brands as well as unbranded fuel. And residential customers will now be able to get their home heating oil and other petroleum products from Lykins.”

The purchase of Paul R. Wilson Oil is the second company Lykins has purchased in London, buying Curry Oil Co. last year. These acquisitions continue to fuel Lykins’ expansion in Kentucky and its future growth.

In the last year, Lykins also purchased Hamilton Oil Co. in Georgetown, Ky., J & L Equipment and Oil Co. in Mount Vernon, Ky. and DeBoard Oil Co. in Mount Vernon, Ky.

Lykins Oil is a family-owned and operated business headquartered in Milford, Ohio. The company was founded in 1948 by Guy Lykins, Sr., and is now in the third generation of management.

The company serves customers in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, as well as throughout the Midwest and the Southeast and provides five key services: branded fuels, wholesale fuels, commercial, transportation and home heating oil. The company represents five major brands: BP, Marathon, ExxonMobil, Shell and Clark. Lykins Oil is one of the largest petroleum marketing companies in the region and the nation. Currently, Lykins employs 180 people.
