Joe Gorder to take the helm in 2013.
San Antonio-based Valero Energy Corp. has named Joe Gorder president and chief operating officer, My San Antonio Online reported.
Gorder who serves as Valero’s executive vice president and chief operating officer will transition into his new role as president, effective Jan. 1. In his new position, Gorder will continue to be responsible for Valero’s refining operations, as well as commercial operations in marketing, supply and transportation.
Bill Klesse will continue as chairman and CEO. Klesse previously held the title of president as well.
“This new title reflects Joe’s commitment to excellence in all aspects of our business and his ongoing leadership in our operations,” Klesse said in a statement. “We thank him for his hard work and dedication to our company.”
Gorder previously was chief commercial officer and president of Valero Europe, where he oversaw all commercial trading and related activity for the company. He also was responsible for all business activity and operations of Valero’s assets in the UK and Ireland. Gorder also has served as executive vice president for marketing and supply and as senior vice president for corporate development and strategic planning. Before joining Valero, he held positions at Ultramar Diamond Shamrock and Diamond Shamrock.
