Kroger c-store expands its footprint in the Midwest.
Kwik Shop has purchased the former QuikTrip convenience store and gas station in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Kroger Co.-owned convenience retailer announced it has bought the land and all existing buildings at 1749 W. Broadway and plans to reopen a larger, renovated store within two months.
A much smaller Kwik Shop at 1602 Ave. G will be closed.
A written release from Kwik Shop indicated the new West Broadway location will have five times the number of pumps compared to the former QuikTrip—20 pumps compared to four—and twice the interior size of the Avenue G fueling station. Inside, the company said the store will also have an expanded selection of food and beverages.
Once completed, the estimated size of the new site will be approximately 5,000 square feet.
The new store is another expansion step for Kwik Shop, which has one other location in Council Bluffs. Kwik Shop, headquartered in Hutchinson, Kan. operates 128 stores in Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. The c-store is now constructing a store and fuel station on property in Wichita, Kan. that also will house a regional Kwik Shop training center and office.
