Training exercise to train onshore dispatchers and rescue teams for natural disaster response.
Cajun Navy Relief will hold its first Search and Rescue Games, sponsored by Krispy Krunchy Chicken, this Saturday in Henderson Bay, located 15 minutes east of Lafayette, La.
The games will also use the land owned by St. Martin Land Co. so that air boats will also be allowed to participate. The one-day training exercise will implement the software used during actual natural disaster rescue scenarios and train onshore dispatchers and rescue teams in the water on how to locate those in need of help and return those rescuees to a safe space.
“We’ve been planning for months for this event and know that it will give us the simulation training we need to be better prepared for the next natural disaster that will hit anywhere in the Southern region of the United States. We are humbled by the outpouring of support we have received for this event, especially by our friends at Krispy Krunchy Chicken, who stepped up to underwrite 100% of the costs of this critical training exercise. The help they are giving us on Saturday will mean more lives can be saved by trained members of Cajun Navy Relief when we are called upon,” said Shawn Boudreaux, Cajun Navy Relief Chairman of the Board.
Registration for the event will take place at the Henderson Bay Boat Launch on I-10, located at the Butte La Rose exit. Media covering the event must check in.
The schedule for Saturday’s event is as follows:
7:00am-8:30am- Registration
9:00am- Search and Rescue Games Begin
1:00pm- Boats due back at base
2:00pm- Lunch and Winner Announced
