QMart raises funds and hosts blood drive to help Santa Fe High School.
The first thing customers notice about a visit to QMart in Dickinson, Texas are jovial employees. But, on Friday, May 18, their upbeat attitudes were hard to maintain after learning about a tragic school shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas.
As the convenience store is less than 10 miles away from the school, almost every QMart employee was affected either as a Santa Fe resident, knowing people who were directly impacted and/or being an alum of the high school.
“Dickinson is a small and close-knit town very similar to Santa Fe. We were all hurting for this community and we had to do our part to help,” said Rizwan Alvi, general manager, QMart Dickinson.
To help those impacted, QMart donated $2,000 to Santa Fe’s school district by hosting a social media fundraiser where $1 was given for every post like or share. The C-store also hosted a blood drive. During this event, more than 40 people participated and received complimentary food from QMart.
“C-stores play a critical role in the community. Customers see us as part of their neighborhood. When tragedy happens we must take action to rally behind those impacted,” said Fazil Malik, CEO, QMart.
