New 11,500 square-foot Wawa opens this week in Philadelphia.
Wawa is opening its biggest convenience store this Friday, Dec. 14 in Philadelphia and it’s kicking off the grand opening celebration with a parade.
According to a report by Eater Philly, the new 11,500 square-foot Wawa is located at 150 S. Independence Mall West in the Public Ledger building, across from Independence Hall and between 6th and Chestnut streets in Old City. It’s more than 2,000 square feet bigger than the second-largest Wawa, located in Washington, D.C.
The grand opening begins at 8 a.m. on Dec. 14. and includes a “Philly Firsts” parade on Chestnut Street at 8:45 a.m. The parade is said to include “history makers and mascots,” according to Eater Philly. The grand opening will also include giveaways and hoagie-building competitions.
According to Eater Philly, the new Wawa will include seating, plants, two indoor murals with the theme “Philly Firsts,” created by Mural Arts and artists Keir Johnston and Willis Humphrey. Coffee cups are also expected to feature mural art. It will also feature a Once Upon a Nation storytelling bench.
