Go Mart acquires three stores with acquisition.
Go Mart is set to acquire Parkersburg, W.Va.-based Kompak Convenience Stores, the Parkersburg News and Sentinel reported.
The deal, which includes three stores, is scheduled to be finalized on Dec. 18. Go Mart is based in Gassaway, W.Va., and has about 100 stores in Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Owner Gary Traugh purchased Kompak in 1985. He told Parkersburg News and Sentinel that he still remembers that his first day’s sales totaled $270. In its prime during the 1990s with four locations, Kompak had grown to a $25,000-a-day business.
Kompak was established in the 1960s by Harry Thorn, and is among the oldest community-based chains in the nation.
