Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip has partnered with Wisconsin brewery Karben4 to create ‘Glazer Bean,’ a chocolate coffee stout brewed with Kwik Trip’s coffee and made by Karben4 Brewing.
Kwik Trip approached the Madison brewery about making a beer for the chain but not a “white label beer,” where they would use a current Karben4 beer and put the Kwik Trip name on it, brewmaster Ryan Koga told the Green Bay Press Gazette.
The companies planned a series of beers that would reflect the convenience store but also stay true to the brewery’s style of beers.
Glazer Bean is a chocolate coffee stout made with cold-brew coffee, liquid cacao and lactose. The coffee is steeped in the beer for one or two days and then added back to the bright tank.
“It’s not a dessert beer or a pastry stout,” Koga told the Green Bay Press Gazette.
He said the initial order was for 1,700 cases (just under 200 barrels of beer), but the response has been positive, so more might be in the works, for Wisconsin Kwik Trip locations as well as Iowa and Minnesota.
